Web 2.0

Web 2.0 is the term introduced by Tim O’Reilly in 2004 to describe the next generation of the web in a collaborative manner that present the web containing information ‘to & from’ the user. Social sites, wikis, communication tools, and other methods that let the people share information online are part of it.
More or less the idea behind the term was to depict the improved form of World Wide Web.
The term itself contains the following characteristics of the web:
  1. Using Web as Platform for services.
  2. Data as the driving force.
  3. A kind of open source development.
  4. Lightweight business models enabled by content as well as service syndication.
  5. Software above the level of single architecture in mind. Everyone has access to the same service however using the different architecture (may be someone using Windows and the other one using Linux or any OS have the same service).
Also the way information should be presented can not be neglected because now it is also a part of it. AJAX, CSS2, XML and similar technologies that are giving a new format to the web are included in it. These technologies are present here from a long time span but using in collaboration to each other and upto there full caliber let them become the part of the term that Tim O’Reilly coined as Web 2.0.
